Advertising is a thriving business in Puerto Rico. Competing for the advertising dollar are several local television stations, FM and AMradio stations , several newspapers with island-wide circulation as well as many other regional publications. Other media include several well-written monthly magazines and some weekly publications for the general public; billboard advertising, mail campaigns, and cable TV. Promotions are frequent especially through chain supermarkets and drugstores. There are several Internet Service Providers and thousands of internet service users. The largest commercial institutions are already online, and many more go online each month.
Many of the large advertising agencies in the U.S.A. have branches or
affiliates in Puerto Rico, usually in the San Juan metropolitan area.

A frequent mistake made by some companies new to Puerto Rico is to have
their advertisements translated directly into Spanish from a different language. Others bring to Puerto Rico ads that were prepared for and aimed at other Spanish-speaking countries. The resulting
message will not necessarily reflect the advertiser's aims. It is
generally advisable to consult with the experts on this field. The
ways to approach the Puerto Rican consumers are not necessarily the
same as those utilized in the United States of America or anywhere
else.
