Car rental agencies are located throughout the San Juan Metropolitan area and in many of the major cities like Ponce, Mayaguez, Fajardo as well as in the island municipalities of Vieques and Culebra. Most major hotels and resorts on the island have links to one or more car rental agencies.
Most major car rental companies have branches in Puerto Rico. In many
cases, you can make reservations from the U. S. “800” number for each
company. There are also some strictly local companies. Rates are
somewhat higher than comparable average U.S. prices. Daily rates for an economy car such as a Toyota Tercel will vary from around $25 daily in slow season to $38 or more at the height of the tourist season. Daily rental for a Lumina or similar vehicle will vary from $50 in offseason to $80 or more during turist season. Some shopping
around is advisable. Some rental car companies might not rent you a
vehicle unless you can present a valid credit card that will honor
the deposit.
It is also possible to rent motorcycles and other types of vehicles
at some specialized locations. Check the Yellow Pages under

When you use a major credit card to pay for the deposit on your rented
car, generally the card covers some car insurance. Your own driver’s
insurance quite possibly also applies to any vehicles you may rent
while on the island. You may want to double check on theses features
for your own credit card and driver’s insurance before leaving your
home.These facts may save you money when you rent your vehicle in
Puerto Rico.
