Cidra is a growing municipality with 42,700 inhabitants as of the 2000 census. It is located north of Cayey, south of Comerío and Aguas Buenas, east of Aibonito; and west of Caguas.It is referred to as the land of eternal spring. Its cool, pleasant year-round temperature and its convenient location, some 15 minutes away from Caguas has brought many new residents from all around the San Juan metropolitan area. As of the 2000 census, population was 42,700 inhabitants. Real estate prices in the area have increased significantly.

Lago de Cidra, an artificial lake, supplies much of the water used around the metropolitan area. Some sport fishing is also done in the lake.

Cidra has attracted many industries, including manufacturers of scientific instruments, machinery, and textiles. Agropecuarian industries include dairy farms, minor crops, tobacco and coffee. The patron saint for Cidra is "La Virgen del Carmen", celebrated on July 16th.
