Puerto Rico's climate is tropical. Average temperatures at mid-day
range from 85° F in the winter months to 95° F in mid-summer.
Temperatures in the mountains of the center of the island are
generally five to ten degrees cooler throughout the year. Nighttime
temperatures are generally 10 to 15 degrees cooler than the average
daytime temperature. The lowest temperatures ever recorded on the
island are in the 50° F range. Hence, it never snows or goes below
freezing anywhere in the island.
Humidity and other factors contribute to a heat index factor which
is generally five to ten degrees higher than actual temperature. Many
visitors describe prevailing temperatures and overall climate as
“enjoyable”.
The ultra-violet radiation factor is high due to the intense tropical
sun. Sun-blocking lotions are recommended, particularly for
sensitive Northern skins unaccustomed to tropical sun. Sun glasses
are advisable, too.
Puerto Rico is located in the path of tropical hurricanes which threaten the island during the hurricane season which runs from June through November each year and peaks around the middle of September.
