The Puerto Rico Elections Board (Comisión Estatal de Elecciones),
telephone (787) 724-4979, is authorized by law to regulate
contributions to political parties.
During non-election years, natural or legal persons may make voluntary
contributions to specific candidates in a political party, municipal
or central political organisms or independent candidates up to
$1,000.00 per year. Such contributions may not exceed a total of five
thousand dollars.
During election years, such contributions may not exceed (1) $2,500.00
to a candidate to the position of Governor, political party or
combination of both; (2) $2,500.00 for all other candidates, none of
which may receive more than $500.00 per year; (3) $500.00 for a group
or independent support committee for a candidate or political party;
(4) $200.00 for a candidate in a political primary campaign. Total
contributions may not exceed $5,000.00.
Accrual of such contributions is not permitted.
