You will probably agree that Playa Flamenco is one of the most beautiful beaches in the whole world. A well-kept camping area is available year-round. In Easter, Spring Break, and throughout the summer, the population of this camping area may be as large or larger than the total population of the island of Culebra! And in nearby Culebrita, a smaller island reached by motorboat from Culebra, the beaches are even more secluded and more beautiful!

Tap water in Culebra is brought in by pipes from the mainland. Use for human consumption at your discretion. See our section on water for further information.

Culebra is a favorite vacation spot for many tourists from the rest of Puerto Rico also.

The patron saint for Culebra is "Virgen del Carmen", celebrated on July 16.

Government-operated boats and ferries travel to the island several times each day from the city of Fajardo. One-way ticket is under five dollars. Tickets may be purchased in advance from the P R Maritime Authority. Call 800-981-2005, 787-863-0705 or 787-863-0852, or the Culebra office at 787-742-3161.

Reservations are required to use the ferry to bring your own vehicle into Culebra. Call telephone (787) 863-0705. There are also some car rental agencies operating on the island. They have limited car inventories and demand is large in weekends and throughout the summer. You can also use local taxis, which are passenger vans which hold about twelve passengers and usually do not leave for their destination unless they are full. Rates are three to five dollars per person to destinations such as Flamenco Beach.

Many people travel to Culebra in their own private sail or motor boats. Some boats are available for renting on an hourly or daily basis, with or without captain and crew. Ask around Fajardo or check current tourist guides.
