There are no Customs formalities in travel to and from Puerto Rico and
the United States of America. However, there is a U.S. Department of
Agriculture ban on introducing certain fruits and other products into
the United States. Travelers' luggage is checked for these purposes
when leaving Puerto Rico for the United States of America. Travelers with undeclared, prohibited items may be fined on the spot by federal authorities. The unallowed items may be confiscated. Forbidden fruits and plants include mangoes, sour sop (guanábana), passion fruit (parcha) and any plant potted in soil.
