Dorado, Puerto Rico

Dorado  is the resort area closest to the San Juan Metropolitan Area. Tourist hotels in the Dorado area boast the largest outdoor pool in the Caribbean and some of the best golf courses on the island. Tourist life in Dorado is centered around the hotels themselves. Tourists spend their time at the excellent pools, the beach and the excellent golf courses. Night life is centered around the Casino, hotel dining and dancing, and artistic shows. Also, Dorado is no more than one hour away from the night life in the San Juan Metropolitan Area. The patron saint for Dorado is "San Antonio de Padua", celebrated on June 13. Population is estimated at 34,000 (2000 census).

Once inside the facilities of the hotels at Dorado, you and your family may feel almost totally secure from crime and other unpleasantries. The incidence of crime within the facilities is virtually nil.

Near the resort area are located some high-priced housing developments, some of them bordering golf courses. The area is also known for its seafood restaurants.

Río La Plata, one of Puerto Rico's largest rivers, flows through the Dorado plains toward the Atlantic Ocean. Heavy rains may cause the river to overflow its banks and flood sugar cane plantations, farms, roads and some populated areas.
