Electrical power in Puerto Rico is similar to that produced
in comparable locations in the United States (110 to 120 volts, 60HZ). Electrical appliances
brought in from the United States of America normally will not require any
modifications in order to operate adequately.

Electrical service is available to all parts of the island. Rates are
comparable to those of many United States cities. Rates include
provisions for the cost of fuel, all imported, which are revised
frequently. Subsidies are granted to low-income families upon
compliance with specific requirements.
The P R Electrical Power Authority is named as a strong pollutant of
the Cataño community by emissions from the power plants in that area.
A projected power plant in Arecibo has raised many complaints from
residents of that area.
