Emergencies in Puerto Rico

To be prepared in advance for the eventuality of an emergency is one of the surest means to remain calm and in control of the situation if and when an emergency ever arises.

In case of an emergency, DON’T PANIC. If you cannot secure immediate help due to a language problem, go through your list of bilingual acquaintances until you find one that may help with your particular problem.

Prepare your own list, adding those that may be of special interest to you. Include the phone numbers of close relatives and business relationships outside Puerto Rico. Write down all numbers, including those which you feel you have memorized. Include the names of Spanish-speaking acquaintances, if you do not speak the language. One of them may be useful if you do have an emergency and cannot secure help due to language problems.

Keep in a safe, handy place information that is important to you. Include bank account and credit card numbers, social security numbers of all your family members, driver license numbers and expiration dates, voter registration card numbers and any other information that may be important to you in the eventuality that all your records and belongings were to disappear.
