About Puerto Rico:

Flora
(A picture is worth 1000 words)

Puerto Rico's tropical climate provides a fertile environment for plant life. The combination of tropical heat, rains and lots of moisture in the air interact to stimulate proliferation of organic life. Insects and birds, both abundant in a tropical environment, take care of much of the pollen transport essential for many plant species. The rain forests, of which the best known is El Yunque, are said to harbor around 240 tree species which range from tiny orchids to giant ferns. The southern coast is arid, desertic in some areas. Several species of cacti thrive in that environment.
