Rio Grande is a coastal city of
52,300 inhabitants
(2000 census), located in northeastern Puerto Rico, about forty
minutes east
of San Juan
on PR Road #3. It is about 20 minutes
west of Fajardo
also on PR Road #3. Tourist hotels and resorts in its area include
Wyndham's El Conquistador Resort, Parador Fajardo Inn, Rio Grande
Plantation Eco Resort and the Westin Rio Mar Beach Resort & Country
Club.
 The road that leads to El Yunque Caribbean National Rain Forest begins at Barrio Palmer, a ward of Rio Grande.
The
patron saint for Rio Grande
is "Virgen del Carmen",
celebrated on July 16th.
