Santa Isabel is a town of
21,600 inhabitants
(2000 census), located about ten minutes east of Ponce on PR Road # 52, the Luis A Ferré Expressway or PR Road #1.
Santa Isabel is known for its racehorse stables and for its mango plantations, both partly visible from the Luis A Ferré expressway.
Water from the rivers that flow through Santa Isabel is used to irrigate the fields for both horses and mangoes. This gives a touch of green to an otherwise barren and arid landscape.
The
patron saint for Santa Isabel
is "Santiago Apóstol",
celebrated on July 25th.
