Toa Baja is a coastal city of around 94,000 inhabitants (2000 census). It is located just off the de Diego expressway (PR road 22) and south on PR Road 165, some twenty-five minutes west of San Juan. Other neighboring communities include Dorado, Vega Alta and Toa Alta.
Located in one of the outer edges of the Greater San Juan metropolitan area, it has attracted many new residents willing to commute daily to and from their jobs.
The town has also attracted many industrial concerns under the Puerto Rico manufacturing incentive programs.
Toa Baja's coastal plains are occasionally flooded when heavy rainfall makes nearby rivers overflow their banks.
Punta Salinas Beach is a public beach (balneario) much visited, especially throughout the summer. Nearby is Isla de Cabras, a small islet used mainly for passive recreation and fishing. It provides great views of Old San Juan across San Juan Bay.
The patron saint for Toa Baja is "San Pedro Apóstol", celebrated on June 30th.
