The active tourist seasonbegins early in November and continues
through April. Most hotels, resorts and other similar establishments
are generally sold out throughout at least the main dates of the
tourist season, namely the weeks around Thanksgiving, Christmas and
New Year's Day. Most airlines are also generally sold out for the
same period.
Reservations well in advance are recommended and confirmation of
reservations becomes almost mandatory as the deadlines approach.
Prepayment is a safe way to guarantee your reservations or some type
of financial reward in case of non-compliance by your provider. You
should confirm travel arrangements, hotel and vehicle reservations
as well as any service which is of special importance to anyone in
your group.
As is the case in most if not all tourist-oriented environments, the
highest rates prevail during the tourist season for most services,
including air travel and hotel services. Economy-minded travelers
avoid the tourist season, particularly the peaks. Significant price
reductions are usually in effect during the off-season periods.
There are no appreciable differences between what a tourist may expect
to enjoy in Puerto Rico during the tourist season and during the
off-season months. The main difference is centered around the fact
that many visitors to Puerto Rico do so to get away from the cold
weather prevailing in their home states and, therefore, prefer
the cold months of Fall and Winter, when it is still sunny and warm in Puerto Rico, for their travels.
