Cilantro , (Coriandrum sativum), also commonly called Cilantrillo , is an important component of Caribben cooking. It is also used extensively in Indian cooking. All parts of the plant are edible: leaves, stems, seeds and roots. The fresh leaves and the dried seeds are the most commonly used in cooking. Cilantro (Coriander, in English) is used in Caribbean, Indian, Latin American and Mediterranean cooking, among others.
Cilantro is also utilized as folk medicine for several ailments. It is used throughout the world as a remedy for anxiety, for insomnia, as a diuretic and as a general digestive aid. Cilantro should not be confused with culantro, another important herb in cooking. Cilantro is an important ingredient in Puerto Rican and Caribbean cooking.
